We’re all on our own little journey. Here’s a glimpse of mine.
Hi, I’m Hannah. Founder of SONDERBIRTH
I didn’t set out to become a somatic birth doula.
Like many women, my own births opened something ancient and electric in me. They restructured my body and spirit in ways no book or training could have prepared me for. My first felt more like a clinical procedure I was ushered through than anything else, but was followed ten years later by the most sensual and orgasmic labor with my beloved at my side. The difference: I knew exactly who was birthing - all her shadows and self-sabbotaging habits were illuminated and transformed.
Pregnancy, birth and postpartum are all stages in an experience that is opening, revealing, and always leading you to a new women to meet in the mirror.
Honoring the vivid and complex became the foundation for Sonderbirth™, and later mapped the framework for The Unfolding Method™—a somatic, archetypal approach to birth that centers the nervous system, the unconscious, and the body’s inner intelligence. In 2023 I developed Birth Constellations™ using what I call the sonder spiral, a map of the emotional and relational imprints surrounding a woman before labor even begins—revealing that how we birth is how we live, and how we live is reflected in how we birth.
This work is about turning towards oneself and tending to the unseen so that we can birth fully present and with the rhythm of our essential nature.
I’ve walked with hundreds of women through this terrain, offering tools that support coherence in the body, self-trust in the unknown, and reverence for the full spectrum of human experience. Beyond birth, I work with corporate leaders as a brand strategist to realize the fullest potential of a business and the people that power it and teach somatic and emotional literacy to high school students through the Upward Bound program, where we explore what it means to feel safe, seen, and empowered in one’s own skin.
What I’ve learned, whether in a birth room, a classroom, or my own inner landscape—is that healing doesn’t come from fixing, it comes from witnessing, from honest conversations with yourself, and from attunement. From loving what’s been exiled. From remembering we are never separate from the sacred. We are all uniquely vivid, complex beings with stories to tell.
This is the heart of my work.
My professional upbringing is in psychology, research and brand strategy
For years I've worked inside some of the most complex human systems there are studying how people think, what they need, how they make meaning, and how organizations communicate truth. I currently serve as Director of Brand Strategy at RPM Living, one of the nation's leading multifamily real estate companies, where I work at the intersection of human behavior and how a brand shows up in the world.
What I've learned in boardrooms and birth rooms isn't so different. People are trying to be seen. They're trying to trust. They're trying to find the version of themselves that feels most true.
Birth work is, at its core, the study of human behavior at its most primal and unguarded. The psychology, the research, the strategy all of it informs how I hold space, how I ask questions, how I build tools, and how I understand the woman in front of me.
I didn't abandon that world when I became a doula. I brought it with me.
Personally, my greatest transformation has happened in the quiet moments of being mom.
My first cracked open my heart and showed me the capacity of the human heart to love, and my second filled all the spaces with light to make me whole.
My Capricorn son, August, is my whole heart. My Daughter, a Valkyrie, is my soul.
Currently, I am learning to balance being an advocate for my son’s dreams of becomming a professional soccer player and for my daughter’s needs —> V was born with a rare and often fatal genetic condition called Campomelic Dysplasia (a form of Skeletal Dysplasia) which will require lifelong medical care.
After a sensual and beautiful homebirth, we were launched into a nine-month journey in the NICU. Five of which were spent thousands of miles away in Delaware where she received life-saving care from a team of specialists. My years of being a doula armed me with what I needed to advocate for her and, ultimately, save her life, but she is actively reshaping our lives and who we are all becoming in the process is unfolding.
